2016 – Golf FunDay and Luncheon Scheduled for Monday October 24th!

The Emerald Foundation Golf Outing and Luncheon is the charity’s biggest fundraising event of the year. This year’s outing will be held on Monday, October 24th. The 8th annual event will again be held at Stonewall Golf Course in Elverson, Pennsylvania. Last year’s event raised over $100,000 for a wide variety of charities that support the Emerald Foundation’s critical focus areas of education, youth and healthcare research, with Coaches vs. Cancer, NHS Human Services, KeystoneCare, Boy Scouts of America and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society among those as primary beneficiaries.

With a proud and long history of partnering with community and national charitable organizations, Emerald is committed to making a difference in the lives of those in need. The annual golf outing provides an opportunity for those who share our commitment to making a difference to gather for a fun day to play golf, shoot some hoops, meet some local sports personalities, and take home various sports memorabilia, sports packages and other valuable items.

Annual Golf Outing Raises over $85,000!

Emerald Foundation Golf Outing Raises More Than $85,000 for Numerous Charitable Causes

October 20, 2014 – Elverson, PA2014-DSC-5669

More than 100 golfers teed off Monday, October 20th in the 6th annual Emerald Foundation Golf Outing at Stonewall’s North Course in Elverson, PA.  The outing which offers a unique combination of golfing tradition and other fun activities, raises money for charities that provide programs and services in the Emerald Foundation’s key focus areas: benefiting children, providing educational resources, investing in disease related research and providing support to those suffering from various illnesses.

Coaches vs. Cancer is one of the main benefactors of the event which had several “City 6” basketball coaches in attendance, including Saint Joseph’s Hawks coach Phil Martelli, Drexel Dragons coach Bruiser Flint and Temple Owls coach Fran Dunphy.  With the City 6 coaches on hand, the traditional free throw shooting competition was held, where the players shoot foul shots which count as part of the overall golf score.  Representatives from the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, another benefactor of the event, were on hand to host a hole played with numbered pink golf balls which were later drawn out of a basket for prizes as part of the event’s ceremonial dinner.

With the playing of Scottish bagpipes during registration, the golfers played a round of golf that offered a fun mix of the traditional golf outing competitions like low overall score, longest drive and closest to the pin, along with some unique golfing experiences like the “throw back hole,” where the players used antique clubs and balls.  There was also a long drive competition where the players teed off using marshmallows rather than golf balls.  Of course a marshmallow driving hole would not be complete without s’mores, which were toasted and offered to the players at that hole.

With the generous support of the sponsors and players, the event raised more than $85,000 which will help support many individuals and families in need.  The Emerald Foundation would like to offer special thanks to Jim and Noreen Carruthers, the lead sponsor for the tournament as well as the other lead sponsors: Raymond James, Independence Blue Cross, Oak Tree Development Group, NewDay USA, TL Ventures, GSV Assent Management, Rex Energy, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, Actua, Susquehanna International Group, Patriot Financial Partners and Bank Financial Services Group.
